The Porch is both a community and a mission. It is not just a Tuesday night event. It is not just a “worship service”. We dream of becoming a movement full of activists that are bringing God’s love, justice and mercy and truth to Dallas and to the world. We are not people who think we have it all together. We are fractured, broken, ugly and incomplete but we know the one who is beautiful, complete, perfect and loving. We simply want others to know Him.

We also meet regularly in community groups (link) of 8-10 people that meet on different nights and mornings of the week all over the city. These groups meet for the purpose of knowing one another more deeply, partnering together for spiritual growth and praying for each other.

Who comes to the Porch?

We are a ministry of Watermark Community Church but people come from all over the metro area and from other churches. We are a young adults gathering that serves our entire city and helps people get more connected to community mission and the local church.

Young Adults – What the heck is a young adult?

John Mayer wrote about a “Quarter Life Crisis” in a great song, “Why Georgia”. In this song he feels “stuck inside the gloom” and wonders about the outcome of his “still verdictless life” and asks throughout the song, “am I living it right?”

Like John, our 20’s and 30’s are packed with transitions, changes and big decisions. Where should I live? What job should I take? Should I get married? What is my purpose in life? Is there more than working and making money? Am I living it right?

In this life stage we often hit a crisis because we don’t have community and we don’t have direction. We’re supposed to be growing in maturity in life and career but the reality is we often don’t know who we are or where we are going. The older we get the more pressure we feel to “get our act together”.

The Porch wants to help young adults acknowledge these experiences, work through them and reflect on who we are becoming using the wisdom of God’s word and community. This is the life stage where we set the trajectory for the rest of the journey and it’s critical season to make great decisions about life, mission and purpose. We believe that our generation is a unique generation that is looking for raw authenticity, deep spirituality, tight community, local involvement and global awareness. We long for truth, community and a cause that is worthwhile. In the Porch community we believe deeply that God is placing both universal and unique longings in our hearts so we can be a small part of making a huge difference in God’s world. We believe God has great things prepared for our generation. Don’t just go to work and then go home to watch T.V. at night. Come experience community, worship and mission with us.
