Apartments: A Spiritual Black Hole
Demographic: Today in Dallas-Fort Worth, over 4 million people reside in apartment communities. Within 5 miles of Watermark's new home apartment residents comprise over 50% of the population. And 95% of those apartment residents are unchurched.
Vision: By the end of 2006 we envision 20 Watermark CARES Teams serving in 20 apartment communities within 5 miles of our new church home and 30 Watermark volunteers serving along side each of them!
Strategy: Watermark's Apartment Ministry is focused on reaching our apartment neighbors. CARES (Community Activities and Resident Services) is the vehicle through which we seek to creatively share the hope we have in Christ within local apartment communities. Apartments are strategic to the mission of Watermark because of the large number of people that live in apartments and the limited effectiveness of traditional outreach strategies.
How: Watermark places CARES outreach teams into apartment communities (predominately middle to upper level income). Watermark CARES Teams (married couples or two single adults) receive a rent-free apartment and commit to 10 hours per week each helping to build community and ministering to residents. Watermark volunteer teams serve alongside CARES Teams a couple of times per month to help create authentic community and build relationships with residents through social activities.
CARES Teams quickly become the "hub" of community life, and these intentional relationships provide opportunities to share the Gospel and connect residents to the church.
Watermark CARES Teams perform functions that flow naturally out of the Christian life including:
 Welcoming new residents
Planning social events
Ministering to residents in times of special need
Watermark CARES Team Volunteers support the community activities by:
Helping set up and tear down for events
Connecting new residents with others
Praying for CARES Teams
